ART & WRITING CONTEST FOR STUDENTS IN
GRADES PRE-K–12
Theme :
Cultivating Gifted Minds

  • Contest is open to all New Jersey students in grades Pre-K–12 from public or private schools as well as those who are home schooled.
  • Winners will be selected in each of the following grade-level groups:Pre-K–2,  3–5, 6–9, 9–12
  • Only one entry per student per contest is permitted (one for Art & one for Writing).
  • Teachers, please submit only the best two student art creations and the best two student writing creations from each class.
  • Entries must be submitted electronically at www.njagc.org/contests no later than Saturday, December 19, 2020.
  • Winners will be notified by January 25, 2021.
  • Work must specify it was created between September 15, 2020, and December 19, 2020.​

Art Contest

Requirements
Picture
  1.   1.Art must relate to above theme: “Cultivating Gifted Minds”
  2.Must be two-dimensional in any medium— NO three dimensional
  1.      elements allowed.
  2.   3.Entry limited to one high-resolution image ONLY.
4. Please submit your entries and a picture of the artwork ONLINE or email to ​artcontest@njagc.org​

Writing Contest

Picture
  1. Essay must relate to theme: Cultivating Gifted Minds
  2.Must be no longer than two pages, double-spaced, and typed and can be in the form of a creative piece, poem, essay, etc. 
  3.Use 12-point Times New Roman font on 8.5” by 11” paper.
  4.Please complete submission form and upload the essay ONLINE or email to writingcontest@njagc.org​

Youth Video Contest

 1. PARTICIPANTS - Videos must be original productions by NJ students of public, private or home schools.
 

2. THEME - All videos must show the 2020 NJAGC theme, Cultivating Gifted Minds
3. REQUIRED OBJECT - All videos must include include "leaves" or a "plant" as a featured object or simply as a casual prop. 
4. LENGTH - Video length must be at least 90 seconds but no longer than 3 minutes.
5. GENRE – This is entirely up to you. Keep in mind that videos will be posted online for an audience
that will likely include young children.
6. ENTRY DIVISIONS - There are three age divisions; students may enter as individuals or in teams of
up to three members. Mixed age teams enter division of oldest team member.
  • Grade 5 and under
  • Grades 6-8
  • Grades 9-12
NOTE: Teachers may submit up to two entries per class per age group. All submissions must comply with copyright and Fair Use policies. Please see http://www.copyrightkids.org/ Youtube also has many resources on this.
7. STUDENT WORK ONLY - Videos submitted for competition MUST be entirely student-produced.
Teachers/adults may participate as actors and/or consultants but may NOT do any of the actual production work.
8. JUDGING - Judging will be based on theme development, creativity, and technical quality. Strive for
purposeful editing and use of effects in order to best communicate your ideas.
Winning videos will be selected in each age division for which multiple entries are received. If only a
single entry is received NJAGC reserves the right to defer the award for that division.
9. FORMAT – All videos will be submitted as YouTube or Vimeo links to our online entry portal. Details will be posted at NJAGC.org along with the official registration form as the submission window opens. Email any questions to bakerk@njagc.org.
10. LABEL YOUR VIDEO – Identifying information in video credits must include title, student/group name, age division, and school name.
11. DEADLINES - Submit your video between September 15, 2020 and February 19, 2021.
