On August 7, 2017, Our Advocacy team wrote a letter in support of a waiver request that NJDOE sent to US DOE.
The waiver will maintain existing assessment policies, which allow middle school students to take Algebra I, Algebra II or Geometry end-of-course assessments commensurate with their course of study instead of the grade-level mathematics assessment

THE PRESENCE OF STATE POLICY FOR GIFTED EDUCATION IS A SIGNIFICANT EQUALIZER OF OPPORTUNITIES
With no specific mandate of guidelines for gifted programs at the federal level, states assume responsibility for meeting the needs of gifted students, thus elevating the need for strong state policy that is informed by research and best practice.
